Sioux Falls Sesquicentennial
The city of Sioux Falls is celebrating its 150th birthday this year. The city of Sioux Falls was “born” when land speculators from the Western Town Company arrived to claim a town site in the fall of 1856. They built a cabin on Seney Island, staked out a claim and left for the winter, returning in the spring of 1857 to establish a more permanent, year-round settlement.
The dates of the celebration were from June 30 through July 4, 2006.
